When we launched the Paperlike 2 in 2019, it changed how artists and notetakers worked with their iPads. For many, it made using the iPad with an Apple Pencil possible in the first place.

Paperlike's iPad Screen Protector adds just the right amount of friction to give you better control over strokes and handwriting.

The revolutionary Nanodots surface technology, tiny microbeads, created a rough surface while maintaining a clear display transparency.

But as history teaches us, revolution eats its own. And so, in 2022, we launched the Paperlike 2.1, a slightly improved version of the original Nanodots surface.

Archive Sale: We had a couple of hundred Paperlike 2 still lying around and didn't want to destroy them for obvious reasons. They're still a great product, and now you can grab one for a much-reduced price.

Why are there two Paperlikes in the package?

Every Paperlike ships with two separate screen protectors so that you’ll have a spare if the first application doesn’t go according to plan.

Protip:  Be sure to watch our installation video before applying!

If you apply the model correctly, you’ll have a spare!  Give it to a friend or keep it as a backup in case you need to replace your iPad due to malfunction or damage.

Does Paperlike really feel like paper?

Most of our customers think so!

A few have told us that, while the screen protector doesn’t feel exactly like paper to them, it correctly emulates that responsiveness of paper while writing and drawing.

Is Paperlike made of glass or plastic?

Paperlike is made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is 100% recyclable and won’t harm the environment.

The envelopes and shipping materials are also recyclable, including the container envelopes and the protective plastics designed to protect the screen protector during transit.

Can I use Paperlike on top of my glass screen protector?

While we have heard from happy customers that placing the Paperlike on top of a glass screen protector can work, we don’t recommend using the Paperlike in this way.

To maintain responsiveness during tap/touch interactions, screen protectors are typically engineered to a precise level of thickness based on the materials used.

By placing your Paperlike on top of another screen protector, you may see reduced responsiveness when touching your screen or working with your Apple Pencil.

Does Paperlike cause wear and tear on my Apple Pencil?

Minimally, yes.

Here’s what we mean:  The added resistance that Paperlike creates will generate a small amount of friction between your Apple Pencil tip and your screen.  This will result in minor wear over time and use.

However, this is also true for any other paper-feel screen protector on the market.

We’ve invested heavily in creating a quality product that minimizes this downside, so wear and tear should be negligible even over an extended period of time.

If you’re worried about your Apple Pencil tip, keep in mind that tips are also replaceable as a 4-pack through the Apple Store online.

What’s the difference between Paperlike 2.0 and the latest Paperlike 2.1?

The latest iteration of Paperlike’s Screen Protector optimizes the distribution of the Nanodots® technology, improving picture quality and offering minimal light refractions. While these upgrades are wonderful, the Paperlike 2.0 still offers the same paper-like feel and has great picture quality.

The only way to draw (on your iPad)

The Paperlike iPad Screen Protector provides an outstanding drawing experience on my M2 iPad Air. It has just the right amount of friction so that it feels very close to drawing on paper. And it provides good protection to the iPad screen whilst also providing quite good content viewing (I would classify the finish as "glossy matt”), definitely way better than other matt screen covers I have tried that claim to be good for drawing but degrade the viewing experience and feel like you are drawing on sandpaper. I have used the Paperlike on my previous iPad Pro, and will continue to do so when I upgrade again.

The best iPad accessory if you are using the pencil

I am very happy with the paperlike screen protector so far. It does feel like you are writing on paper.
Regarding the application of the screen protector, the video should remind the users to turn off the iPad before starting the application process.

The best out there

I’ve been using Paperlike for the last few years on my iPadPro (various versions) for note taking and artwork. I did make the mistake of trying a cheaper version on my iPad mini… out of curiosity. It’s ok, but it’s not Paperlike. I won’t be doing that again. When you pay as much as you do for an iPad, you need the best accessories too in my opinion.

Best Paper-like iPad Screen Cover, and I've tried to use several...

I’ve tried a few different iPad screen covers intending to provide “paper-like” qualities. This one is by far the best I've used.

Some "paper-like" screen covers have a rough feel that is intended to provide “toothiness”, or friction, for the Apple Pencil or stylus. That "toothiness" is what simulates the feeling of writing on paper. When that "toothiness" is too much, it can be somewhat jarring when you use your finger on the iPad screen. Paperlike's cover doesn't do that. Instead, it provides a smooth feel when using your finger directly on the screen.

That "toothiness" on other covers can also distort the light from pixels on the screen, which can be annoying. It sometimes looks like tiny specs of red, blue, and green on top of the normal screen image. Paperlike also doesn’t do that.

Paperlike has a matte finish that helps block glare but also doesn't overly block the screen you are looking at. Of all the matte covers I’ve used, this one is the best at not hindering my ability to still see the screen and enjoy the iPad's visual clarity.

On top of all this, the Apple Pencil writes amazingly well on Paperlike. It really does feel like writing on paper. Just keep in mind you’ll need to replace the Paperlike cover and your Apple Pencil tip on a somewhat regular basis, depending on how much you use it. Artists will need to do so quite a bit. I use the Paperlike and my Apple Pencil to take notes more than anything else, so I probably won't need to replace the cover nearly as often as others.

I definitely recommend this cover to anyone looking for a “paper-like” surface for your iPad.
